About Anne W. Hiatt (1930-2005)
Enduring commitments are rare today, but not for Anne Wechsler Hiatt. Anne and her husband, Arnold (Chairman of the Stride Rite Foundation), bought their first BCO subscription in 1981 and haven’t missed a year since. Boston Classical was only one of Mrs. Hiatt’s many interests. She was deeply involved in education and concerned with promoting social justice. She served on the boards of Beaver Country Day School, Hospice West in Waltham, Lasell College in Newton and Cambridge College, which awarded her an honorary degree in 2000. She graduated from Beaver in 1947 and received a Bachelor’s degree in Child Psychology from Vassar in 1951. Twenty years later, when her family was grown, she returned to school at Lasell to study nursing and become a hospice nurse. Anne Hiatt was an active member of the Weston Community Chorus and immersed
herself in such varied subjects as American folk art, ancient artifacts,
gardening and raising goats and ducks. Yet for nearly a quarter century
she managed to attend almost every BCO concert. Today the Boston Classical
Orchestra is proud that Anne Hiatt’s family has chosen to memorialize
this gifted woman by supporting Youth and Family concerts in her name.
